Pregnancy is a wonderful journey, but there is so much to do. How and what should you be doing to prepare for your new Valentine? Caring for your new baby and tending to the needs of your family or returning to your job while your body is in the process of recovering after pregnancy and birth is not easy. Here is a list of a few things to think about when preparing for your newest Valentine. Also, don’t forget to spend time with your loved ones this Valentine’s Day! With enough preparation, you can definitely balance and succeed at being a mother, partner, career woman, and you.

For the delivery of the baby

  • Make sure you are pre-registered at the hospital where you plan to give birth
  • Prepare for the transportation to the hospital
  • Get all the supplies you need for a newborn baby such as breastfeeding supplies and diapers
  • Know what to pack. Prepare medical coverage information, baby blanket, socks and slippers for you and even music that you can listen to during the preparation process for the labor
  • Prep your car– don’t forget the infant car seat!

After the birth of the baby

It may be difficult for the first-time (even second and third time) parents to think about what to do after giving birth. Here are a few things to think about during the postpartum period:

  • Prioritize your own needs
Most mothers may feel like they have so much to do with so little time. When you have a baby, you might not have quite as much time to complete tasks as you did before. It’s okay if it takes a little bit more time. It’s okay if you didn’t finish your whole to-do list. Set goals for your day. If you didn’t meet them re-evaluate and see what timing works best for you tomorrow.

  • Get your meals ready
Plan your meals. Make sure you are taking care of yourself. there are quick, easy meals, that are healthy and will provide you with the much-needed energy to care for your new baby. You can also consider cooking in bulk so you have extra food. This can be helpful if you need snacks or if you don’t have time to prepare another meal.

  • Go easy on yourself– if you need help, ask!
Even with all the planning in the world…things may not go as you initially anticipated or you may not finish everything you wanted to get done. Ask for help if you need it. Whether your support system includes a partner, friends, family, or chosen family they are happy to help!

Don’t forget to enjoy your Valentine’s Day with the ones you love! Including your newest little Valentine.
